Our Hungarian book club in Luxembourg, Luxemburgi olvasókör was founded in 2014 by Csaba Papp to provide a forum for those interested in Hungarian literature and culture in the Grand Duchy.

Initially it was a monthly meet-up where we discussed the best works of classic and contemporary Hungarian literature. Then we more and more often invited the authors to Luxembourg to learn about their works from the most authentic source: themselves.

Over the years, the range of events we organise has widened: in addition to writers and poets, we have also invited psychologists and scientists working in other fields, and hosted concerts and theatrical plays. The detailed presentation of over 100 events we organised so far can be viewed in chronological order under the "Past events" tab.

In 2021, we registered our organization as a non-profit association in Luxembourg under the name: Association Bibliophile asbl. At the same time we launched our book clubs for children and young people, where we introduce young people aged between 3 and 18 to the world of Hungarian language and literature in 6 age-groups.

And in 2024, we are opening our Hungarian language courses for foreigners, to make our language and culture accessible to as many people living in Luxembourg as possible.

Our increasingly diverse and colourful activities are inspired by the conviction that culture is one of the essential pillars of a meaningful life, or as our motto borrowed from Borges puts it:

"The book is one of the possibilities of happiness that we, men have."
